Smokey came to us in 2003 from Farmington, Michigan where he lived feral in an apartment complex.  Although he was happy to eat the food left out for him, he shied away from any human contact.  For many months, Smokey Acres founder Marcianne White, cared for Smokey while he continued to live outdoors until late one evening he became ill.  After a rather wild chase, Marcianne was able to trap Smokey and take him for emergent veterinary care.

Once at the veterinary clinic, Smokey transformed into a docile feline who clearly had been socialized as a kitten.  After necessary treatment, Smokey moved in with Marcianne and the two became great companions.

Smokey lived happily with FeLV for several years until he became actively sick and left us in April 2009.  We will never forget the wonderful friendship that Smokey brought into our home.
