Rocky

Meet Rocket!  Rocky is one of Smokey Acres’ newest residents.  He came to us at the end of 2016 via our friends at a clinic in Livonia, Michigan.  Another client found Rocket wandering their neighborhood.  He was super friendly and followed them during their walks.  When they brought Rocky in for his initial appointment, he tested positive for FIV.  Rocky was then neutered and received his first round of vaccines and dewormer.
Rocket is estimated to be 2-3 years old.  Having been an intact male for a few years, he is rather robust in character demonstrating some territorial behaviors.  As such, he has been isolated at Smokey Acres for several weeks.  We have been able to complete his vaccine and dewormer series.  He is now ready to begin a slow and safe introduction to our other residents.  We hope to have Rocky fully integrated into our general population by mid-year 2017 as his aggressive hormones slowly dissipate.
Since Rocky is only FIV positive, he would be a great candidate for foster.  Our FIV residents typically maintain long and uneventful lives.  Since Rocket is immune suppressed, we just take a few extra precautions such as good oral hygiene and closer monitoring for unexpected weight loss.
